Technical Terms
Diode Laser Photocoagulation
A laser used to treat glaucoma by decreasing the production of fluid in the eye in an attempt to lower the intraocular pressure.
Glaucoma Shunts
Devices implanted during glaucoma surgery which allow the flow of fluid from the interior of the eye to the exterior of the eye under the conjunctival layer where it is reabsorbed by the body. Thereby reducing the intraocular pressure.
Topical Cataract Surgery
Latest method of cataract surgery performed. Patients undergo removal of the cataract about 15 minutes, no patch is required after the surgery, patients are able to see immediately following surgery (although slightly blurry), and the patients are free to return to all normal activities the same day of surgery.
Multifocal IOLs (IntraOcular Lenses)
Lenses implanted during cataract surgery which allow patients to be less dependent on their glasses when reading and looking at objects off in the distance.
Vitrectomy with Membrane Stripping
Removal of Vitreous, blood, and/or membranes from the eye, usually entering through the parsplana with a needle like rotary cutter that has fluid injection and suction capabilities.
